The North Penn-Mansfield vs Troy boys basketball game started off on a rough note for the Tigers. In the first quarter the Tigers were down by one point 12-13. In the second quarter, the Tigers came back outscoring the Trojans by two for the quarter, bringing the score up to 22-21. After halftime, the Tigers seemed to falter yet again when the Trojans managed to score 17 points for the third quarter to the Tigers' 14. When things boiled down in the final quarter, the NPM Tigers were able to regroup and pull the game together for a win. The final score of the game was 50-49, North Penn-Mansfield with another win under their belt. Top scorer for the Tigers was senior Logan Tokarz with 15 points that game.
The North Penn-Mansfield Lady Tigers faced off against the North Penn-Liberty Lady Mounties Monday February 3rd and Wednesday February 5th. The Monday night game was a combination of good offense from the Lady Tigers and sheer determination from the Lady Mounties. North Penn-Mansfield nearly doubled North Penn-Liberty's score in the first quarter 23-12. After their initial lead, the Lady Tigers continued to rack up the points and hold off the Lady Mounties. Every so often, lead shooter for the Lady Mounties, Eva Rice would break through the Lady Tigers' defense and score. The final score of Monday night was 56-30, the Lady Tigers never surrendered their lead. At the Wednesday night game, North Penn-Mansfield took total control of the court. The entirity of the first quarter the Lady Tigers prevented the Lady Mounties from scoring at all, gaining an immediate 25-0 lead. Lead shooter for the Lady Tigers was JoAnne McNamara who was able to As hard as the Lady Mounties pushed to break through the Lady Tigers' defense they just couldn't seem to make any shots in the final quarter. The Lady Tigers finished extremely strong with a final score of 62-7.
Saturday night's game kicked off on a high note for the North Penn-Mansfield Tigers as they pulled ahead of the Wellsboro Hornets in the first quarter by two points 21-19. Wellsboro fought back in the second quarter upping the Tigers 33-31, also by two points going into halftime. The excitement was building in both the crowd and the players as the third quarter began. Dominick Garverick lead the Tigers on the court with the leading 22 points scored. However the Tigers' now 8 point head over the Hornets did not last into the final quarter. Wellsboro beat back on North Penn-Mansfield with ferocity on defense, only allowing the Tigers to score 7 points for the quarter. In the end, the Wellsboro Hornets came out on top with a final score of 65-59.
Friday January 31st, the North Penn-Mansfield Lady Tigers took on the Cowanesque Valley Lady Indians. Kicking things off for the Lady Tigers in the first quarter was Jamie Palmer with four points. This led to an advantage later on down the road as the first quarter score was 13-9, the Lady Tigers up by four points. They continued their powerful assault on the court as the second quarter progressed however the Lady Indians proved to be just as formidable a force during this quarter as the scores going into halftime were 24-29, the Lady Tigers up by five points. The third quarter was solid for the Lady Tigers. Good passes and plays led to a large gap in points between them and their opponents 44-30 on the scoreboard. The final quarter seemed to be a breeze for the Lady Tigers as they continued to rack up the points, matching the 14 they scored the quarter before all while keeping the Lady Indians at bay. The final score of the night ended up 58-36, Lady Tigers with another win under their season belt.
The North Penn-Mansfield Tigers honored Nolan Frederick, Seth Nelson and Logan Tokarz on their January 30th senior night against the Towanda Black Knights. The game initaially started with a layup from the Black Knights, but the Tigers rapidly caught up and surpassed them for a first quarter score of 15-10. North Penn-Mansfield's second quarter defense proved tough for Towanda to break. A surplus of fouls on the Black Knights led to numerous points for the Tigers. The score at halftime was 31-20 and after a brief moment of confusion on the court, North Penn-Mansfield's offense worked hard to make and rebound as many shots as possible widening their lead to 47-30. The Tigers were able to maintain their despite the intensity from Towanda on the court. As the final seconds ticked away and North Penn-Mansfield held posession, the Tigers were able to come out victorious with a final score of 71-48.
